Inside The Studio - September 2026
Welcome to the very first edition of Inside The Studio!
Each month, we’ll be sharing a little snapshot of life at The Studio — from highlights and upcoming events to community news, helpful information and everything happening behind the scenes.
And what better month to kick things off? August was a BIG one! We celebrated our first birthday, hosted our very first Cake Canvas workshops, made a few changes around The Studio and have been busy preparing for what’s coming next.
Here’s what’s been happening…
A Message From Mel & Stu 💛
It’s been a busy month at The Studio, and it’s been so nice to see so many faces coming through the door!
We’ve also been busy planning and preparing for The Studio to host Open Studios for the first time!
We’re very excited to be included in this year’s Open Studios line-up of venues and can’t wait to have works from some of our resident artists and participants on display for the broader community to see.
We’d love for you to pop down to The Studio, check out the works on display, show your support and maybe even take home one of the amazing pieces of art available for sale!
See you around The Studio,
Mel & Stu
August Highlights ✨

The Studio turned ONE! 🎉
It’s hard to believe it’s already been a whole year! Looking back at how far we’ve come, the connections we’ve made and all the wonderful people we’ve met along the way has been incredibly special.
The Studio wouldn’t be what it is today without our amazing team, support workers, participants, families and wider community who have supported us, shown up and helped us create the welcoming, creative and inclusive space we always hoped The Studio would be.
Cake Canvas 🎂
We collaborated with Mia from Sweet Peach Bakes for our very first Cake Canvas workshop. These workshops sold out in just 9 minutes!
Safe to say the workshop was a massive hit, and we received so much fantastic feedback asking for more cake decorating workshops.
So watch this space... we might just have to add some more cake classes! 👀

Gallery Wall at The Studio 🎨
We now have a gallery wall at The Studio where artists can proudly display their work!
We’re currently displaying some wonderful hand-drawn pieces from artist Michelle Loschiavo.
If you’re interested in displaying your art, please reach out to our team and we can provide you with all the information.

Behind The Scenes 👀
You may have noticed things have moved around a little at The Studio lately!
We now have a dedicated sewing space in our big room, and Meeting Room 2 has gained its own little chill-out space; perfect for anyone who needs a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle.
We’ve also added our new gallery wall and given our front entrance a makeover with our very own green wall and custom neon Studio sign!
And because Stu apparently couldn’t leave it at that, there are now tiny critters hiding amongst the leaves. 😂
Next time you’re in, see if you can spot them all!

Participant Spotlight 🌟
Meet Michelle!

Michelle is one of our wonderful artists here at The Studio.
Her art journey started in primary school and continued throughout high school, Continuing Education and TAFE.
Working across the artistic styles of realism and surrealism, Michelle specialises in flora and fauna and pet portraiture, working with acrylic paint, oil paint and coloured pencils.
You’ll often find Michelle at her art desk in the big room working on her commission pieces.
If you see Michelle around The Studio, don’t be shy and say hello!
Did You Know? 💡
Some NDIS rules changed in August
New NDIS legislation was passed in August, with some changes already coming into effect, including changes to how participants can request a plan reassessment.
From 27 August, only a participant, their nominee or child representative can request an early plan reassessment.
Requests also need to be submitted using the correct form and include information about what has changed, why a reassessment is needed and relevant supporting evidence.
The good news?
There’s no need to panic or change how you’re currently using your plan.
The NDIS has advised participants to continue using their plans and supports as usual unless they are notified that a change affects them.
More NDIS changes will be introduced gradually, so we’ll continue to keep our Studio community informed as new information becomes available.
August In Photos 📸
There were plenty of things happening around The Studio in August!
From Walter the Walrus, a Book Week costume made entirely from cardboard, and our first Cake Canvas workshops, to new feathered residents in our bird box, giant cardboard creations, 3D printing and experimenting with our UV printer.
Here are a few of our favourite moments from the month.
